✶ Questions & Answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about StashPaste Light, session history, free licensing and local privacy.
StashPaste Light
Is StashPaste Light free?
Yes. Version 1 is free forever, with a perpetual $0 license for one person on one Mac at a time. No payment method or subscription is required.
Is Light a trial?
No. Light is a complete session-history edition. You have seven days from first launch to activate a free license; no paid trial or subscription begins.
What does Light capture?
Light supports text, images, links, colors and file references, subject to exclusions and settings. Ordinary Finder files are referenced at their original location; clipboard images and image files can also be kept as local image data.
How can I organize and paste items?
Use search and content filters, pin items and add notes. Choose Simple or Advanced view and adjust paste preferences, including plain-text paste.
What happens when I quit or restart Light?
History, pins, notes and Hidden flags belong to the running session. Quitting, a crash, an update or another process restart ends that session. The next launch starts with empty history.
Do closing the panel, sleep or screen lock clear history?
No. They preserve the current history while the app continues running. They end temporary authenticated access, so protected content requires authentication again.
Does Light save clipboard history to disk?
Light keeps session history in process memory and does not intentionally persist a history database. Preferences and licensing state may be saved. This does not guarantee that macOS never pages memory or creates temporary files, and quitting Light does not clear the system clipboard.
How much session history can I keep?
The default history memory limit is 128 MB, with 64 MB and 256 MB options. Older eligible items can be removed as the limit is reached. Pinned and Hidden items are protected from automatic removal; they are still discarded when the session ends. This limit covers history data, not all memory used by the app.
Which Macs and languages are supported?
StashPaste Light supports Apple Silicon and Intel Macs running macOS 13 or later. The interface is in English.
Free licensing
Why does Light need a free license?
The free license registers your copy for one person on one Mac. It does not create a StashPaste cloud clipboard account.
How do I get started?
Download Light and select Get Free License. Lemon Squeezy issues the key. Within seven days of first launch, open Settings → About → License, enter the key and select Activate.
What does Version 1 cover?
All releases numbered 1.x.x. The license is perpetual and does not expire just because time passes. Any Version 1 update made generally available requires no additional license fee. Future releases and technical support are not promised.
How many Macs can I use?
One individual on one Mac at a time. Deactivate your license on the old Mac before activating it on another.
What happens after seven days?
The grace period starts at first launch. Activate a free key within seven days in Settings → About → License to continue using Light. Claiming a key alone does not activate the app. No fee or subscription starts when the period ends.
What if a license check cannot reach the network?
A temporary network failure does not, by itself, terminate an already activated license. Activation needs a connection, and a confirmed invalid or disabled license can still restrict access. Clipboard processing remains local.
Do Ko-fi tips unlock anything?
No. Optional tips do not grant a license, features, extra devices, updates or technical support.
Privacy & Security
How are Hidden items protected?
Hidden records require Touch ID or macOS password authentication to Reveal, Copy or Paste. Reveal is temporary and ends on panel close, sleep, screen lock or restart. Unhide removes the flag until you hide the item again or the session ends. Hidden controls display and access in the app; it does not encrypt history in RAM.
Can I require authentication to open history?
Yes. Authentication to open the clipboard is optional and off by default. Hidden records retain their own access protection.
Does Light exclude password managers?
Light excludes supported password-manager source applications and lets you add application exclusions. These controls reduce accidental capture but cannot prevent every sensitive item from being captured.
Is Light a cloud clipboard?
No. Clipboard processing and session history stay local. Licensing and software updates may use the network; clipboard contents are not part of license activation data.
Does memory-only history guarantee secure erasure?
No. Session history is discarded when the app exits, without a guarantee of secure memory erasure. macOS paging, temporary files, other apps and the system clipboard are outside that guarantee. Hidden is not a separate encrypted vault.
