Persistent clipboard history deserves clear storage and access controls. Explore the current Pro development architecture.
The current full development line keeps clipboard history locally and does not send clipboard content for telemetry.
Clipboard contents are not part of license activation data. Licensing and software updates may use the network.
The current full development line protects Clipboard records at rest with SQLCipher, and full image files with AES-GCM. Keys and loaded content remain in process memory while the app runs.
Hidden controls disclosure in the app; it does not create separate encryption. Reveal is temporary. Unhide persists until you explicitly Hide the item again.
Touch ID or macOS password authentication can satisfy item access checks. Startup authentication is optional and defaults to off for new storage.
A password-protected export restores key access to existing encrypted storage. It contains no clipboard records or images and cannot restore a missing database.
Supported password managers and sensitive pasteboard markers can be excluded before capture. Focus changes and other technical factors can affect matching; exclusions are not infallible.
Copy and Paste put content on the macOS clipboard. Finder image paste can also stage a temporary plaintext image file. Encryption at rest does not guarantee protection from software with access to the running process or exported content.
Inspect the process for the edition you are actually running. A socket snapshot shows current connections, not proof that no request ever occurred. Pro may contact licensing and Sparkle update infrastructure.
Find the exact process name in Activity Monitor, then inspect the running process:
PID="$(pgrep -x -n StashPaste)"
[ -n "$PID" ] && lsof -nP -a -p "$PID" -iUse the actual executable name if it differs. Little Snitch or LuLu can show connections over time.
